GENERAL

Do I need an appointment? And how do I book it?

We are by appointment only. We generally cannot accommodate walk-in appointments, but, if we can, we will. An appointment is highly recommended!

The easiest and fastest way to book is online. Click the “book now” tab at the top of the website.

How do I cancel an appointment?

We prefer that you cancel your appointment through your appointment confirmation. However, due to our cancellation policy you are not able to cancel yourself less that 36 hours prior.

If you need to late cancel please call or text.

Will I get any appointment reminders?

Yes!

  • Appointment Confirmation- Upon booking

  • Confirmation Request- 72 hours prior

  • Appointment Reminder- 37 hours prior

Why do I need to provide a credit card?

For our late cancellation and no call/no show policy. We require 24-48 hours notice to cancel your appointment.

Please be mindful that “no shows” and “late cancellations” leave our team with empty appointment times that could have been opened up for other clients who are eager to book. It is a lose-lose situation.

To give you some peace of mind, your credit card number is encrypted and we do not have access to it. If you do not save your credit card to your profile while booking we can only “hold it” for no-show protection. If you save your credit card information to your profile we will only use it, with your permission, while checking out.

LASHES

What is the difference between your lash services?

  • Lash tint- dyes your eyelashes for 2-4 weeks. It does not add length or volume, and is great for blonde eyelashes or lashes with blonde tips. No daily maintenance required.

  • Lash lift- a 2 step process that straightens and relaxes lashes, resulting in a curled back and lifted upper lash line. Lasts 6-8 weeks. Minimal maintenance required.

  • Lash Extensions- synthetic mink lashes are glued to each one of your natural lashes offering a customized style that adds length and volume. Daily maintenance required.

  • We offer classic, hybrid and volume lash extensions. Classic lashes is when one extension is applied to each natural lash. Hybrid/Volume lashes are lash fans (hybrid- 3 lashes, volume- 6 lashes) are applied to each natural lash. Hybrid and volume lashes are a great option if you want/need extra volume and drama.

How long do the results last?

  • Tint- 2-4 weeks depending on daily activity and your eyes naturally (dry/watery).

  • Lift- the curl will gradually relax after 6-8 weeks. You must wait at least 6 weeks before rebooking.

  • Extensions- can be maintained indefinitely with relash appointments. Relash appointments are needed every 1-4 weeks. Any relash appointment booked after four weeks will be charged as a full set.

Are lash lifts and extensions damaging to my natural lashes?

  • Lifts- over processing can occur, resulting in frizzy lashes, but we will take every precaution to avoid it. It is very important that you condition your lashes daily!

  • Extensions- not if they are done correctly and we do them correctly. We isolate properly and don’t overextend, use excess glue, and use the appropriate weight based on your natural lash line.

Do I need a tint?

Try it, tinting is either a game changer or it’s not. The good thing is that both brow and lash tinting are temporary, affordable, and requires no daily maintenance.

How should I arrive for my lash service (tint, lift, and extensions)?

Arrive with clean lashes. For the best results, please stop using water-proof mascara at least 2 days prior to your lift or extension service.

What are gel nails?

Gel nails are referred to as many, many things but “gel” generally means; gel polish, overlay, soft and hard gel. The overlay, soft and hard gel can be polished with regular or gel polish.

Do you reuse tools?

Our technicians never reuse disposable implements. In fact, we give them to you to take home!

Disposable tools are porous and cannot be properly cleaned and disinfected. Reusing them is negligent and dangerous. After each client all reusable, non porous implements are properly cleaned and disinfected. We are always compliant with VA state guidelines and laws that are upheld by the DPOR. *Disposables includes; nail files, buffers, pedicure slippers, (e-file/nail drill) sanding bands, toe rope/separators, orange sticks, etc. Reusable implements include; e-file bits, stainless steel tools, (some) nail files, etc.

What products do you use?

Our goal is to use products purchased from US and Canadian based artisan suppliers who produce in small batches. Small batches have many benefits including: eco-friendly, better overall product quality, strong alliances with vendors, fewer allergic reactions, and more. Our Canadian based partners adhere to strict guidelines and laws regarding chemicals and contaminants in beauty products. We make efforts to avoid harsh chemicals and toxins in our products. But don't worry, we have OPI.

What about kids manicures and pedicures?

Kids services are for kids under 13.

We are not crazy about giving children under 6 nail services. We are willing to make exceptions for attentive and helpful parents with cool kids that can chill.

Kids Manicure- A nail soak followed by trimming, shaping, buffing, and a gentle cuticle pushback. We wrap it up with a light pressure and and lower arm massage.

Kids Pedicure: A foot soak followed by trimming, shaping, buffing, and a gentle cuticle pushback.

Do you do acrylics nails?

Stone Fox strives to be an acrylic free nail salon and do not offer acrylic nails. Here is why:

  • The smell

  • The fumes and airborne particles are harmful and are a common cause of asthma amongst nail technicians

  • Most likely to cause damage, allergic reaction, skin irritation, and worn-down nail syndrome

  • Least natural looking

We find gel products superior, below is why:

  • They are more flexible and less brittle

  • Less damaging to the natural nails

  • Look more natural

  • Less likely to yellow

  • Easier to remove

Can you remove ingrown toenails?

We cannot not remove ingrown toenails, this is beyond our scope of practice

What is a gel overlay?

A gel overlay is applied over the entire natural nail to help strengthen and protect it. An overlay can be filled in. Filling an overlay is better for your natural nail then continuously soaking off/removing gel polish or dip.

What are soft gel nails?

Similar to press on nails. These full coverage nails are made of gel (not plastic) and are applied using gel and are cured under a UV lamp. They come pre-shaped, already buffed and offered in many length and shape combos. These can be filled in. An easy, quick option for a full set of perfect nails.

What are hard gel nails?

The strongest and most customizable nail we offer. These nails are sculpted using a form and not glued on plastic tips. A sculpted nail is built on top of your natural nail, it can be any length or shape. They can be filled in.

Concerned about UV?

We have a few options: we offer dip powder which does not require a UV lamp, or can apply sunscreen to your hands or provide UV blocking fingerless gloves.

SPRAY TANNING

What do I wear during my spray tan?

You have options- you can undress to the level of your comfort or undress completely. You are welcome to wear your bra and undies (or we offer both) or a swimsuit. All bodies are welcome, this is a safe, judgment-free space.

Can I get a spray tan if I am pregnant or nursing?

Absolutely, only thing is that you need to wear a bra/nipple covers (we have both) if you are nursing.

How should I prep for my spray tan?

We recommend exfoliating, waxing, and/or shaving prior to your session. Avoid oils and lotions.

How should I arrive for my spray tan?

Arrive showered and free of makeup, moisturizer, and deodorant to ensure proper absorption and development. Wear dark, loose fitting clothing and bring flip flops to wear after your session. Continue to wear loose clothing as the tan develops.

Anything that will shorten the life of my spray tan?

Shaving, waxing, exfoliating, tight clothing, strappy shoes, socks, spray sunscreens, long showers, and going to the beach.

What if I have dry skin?

Try and exfoliate it off, dry skin will absorb more solution and will appear darker.

Should I wax or tint before or after a spray tan?

Before- waxing can remove the tan and tint can turn dark brown/orange if spray tan is present on the skin.

WAXING

What do I need to do to prepare for my appointment?

We need a minimum of 2 weeks of growth, 3-4 weeks is preferred or at least ¼-½ an inch long.

It is recommended that you exfoliate regularly as your hair is growing out and the day before your appointment.

What if I am growing in my brows?

We love this for you! We do recommend regular brow appointments throughout this process, it will make it easier and you will be less likely to tweeze. We will trim and shape them, remove unnecessary hair, and will keep you informed on your progress.

What if I have never had a Brazilian before?

It's okay if you want to go for it but it's not a bad idea to start with a bikini wax first and then graduate to an extended bikini.

How often should I come in for waxing?

Approximately every 3-6 weeks, your esthetician will suggest a more specific time frame. We suggest that you commit to at least 3 appointments to achieve the best results.

What should I do before or in between my brows appointments?

For the best results please no tweezing, waxing, threading, or trimming 6-8 weeks before your initial appointment or in between appointments.

I break out after waxing, is that normal?

Breaking out after waxing (or tweezing) is frustrating, but normal. Let us know if this happens to you, we have a few tricks! Make sure to let us know at the beginning of your appointment, we got you!

SKIN

How can I prepare for a skincare service?

  • Wait 24 hours after neurotoxins and 2 weeks after filler before getting a facial.

  • Avoid sun exposure.

  • Do not exfoliate, use retinol, and high percentage AHA and BHA products for 48 to 72 hours prior and 7 days for dermaplaning.

  • Consider and plan accordingly for other services such as: spray tanning, hair removal, lash lifts and extensions, and brow lamination.

How often should I get a facial?

The more often the better. Getting a facial monthly is ideal but quarterly, biannually or annually is beneficial too.

What exactly is a light peel?

Common agents used in light peels may include combinations of alphahydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids, such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid and maleic acid. All of these chemicals are the milder choices than those used for deeper peels. You can repeat these treatments at regular intervals to achieve your desired results.

How long do I wait inbetween my peel series?

Typically 2-4 weeks but your esthetican will help you plan out your peel series.

HAIR EXTENSIONS

What are hair extensions?

Hair extensions add length and fullness. Our hair extensions are fused or sewn on natural hair by incorporating additional human or hair.

What type of hair do you use?

We only use 100% Remy human hair which is often considered the gold standard in extensions. It is our preferred choice for hair extensions because it achieves the most natural look.

Remy hair is considered to be the finest quality of human hair because the outermost layer of the hair, known as cuticles, are kept intact and not stripped, like in most other non-Remy hair extensions. Preserving the hairs’ cuticles and aligning them in a unidirectional fashion creates extensions that are completely natural in appearance. This process also ensures that the hair remains super soft, shiny, silky and relatively tangle-free throughout its lifetime.

What methonds do you use?

At Stone Fox we install hair extension using two methods, hand tied or fusion.

Hand tied hair extensions actually refer to a type of hair extension weft used in an extension installation. A weft consists of a collection of hair strands weaved to their own thread. Hand tied hair extension wefts are sewn to your natural hair typically using a beaded track. The number of rows and the number of wefts depend on your starting point and your goals or the look you are trying to achieve.

When extensions are installed using the hand tied hair extension method, no heat, chemicals, glue, or other adhesives are used to attach your extensions to your natural hair. And because of the application using the beaded row, hand tied extensions are able to lay flatter on your head than other extension types, creating a more natural look.

The hand tied hair extension method also alleviates tension or pressure points that can come with other hair extension methods, leading to much more comfortable extensions and healthier natural hair. In addition, when properly installed, the beads won't touch your scalp, which means no rubbing or irritation and a healthier scalp.

Fusion hair extensions (also known as bonding or pre-bonded) are fused to natural hair. Fusion hair extensions uses a heat clamp to bond keratin to the natural hair. Fusion hair extensions are often used to supplement hand tied extensions and are not often our primary method used.

Can I wash, style and color my extensions?

Yes! Please refer to the after care section for more detailed information about washing, styling and coloring your extensions.

How many rows will I need?

A consultation for new installments is required. During your consultation your stylist will assess your hair and discuss your goals (volume and length).

Are there any risks or complications?

  • Traction alopecia- is a form of hair loss caused by prolonged or repetitive tension on the hair due to tight braids, locks, and other hairstyles. The weight of extensions can put additional stress on the roots, so it's important that we match your hair density to avoid unnecessary tension on natural hair. The placement is also essential and will be placed where your hair is the strongest. We will avoid areas along the hairline or the back of the neck, where hair is the most fragile.

  • Sore, tender scalp

  • Allergic reaction- a reaction can occur to the bond from a fusion hair extension

  • Dreadlocks, knotted or matted extensions, or tangling- due to improper care

How often do I need to maintain them in salon?

A maintenance appointment is recommended every 6-10 weeks to remove and move you your extensions. A color maintenance appointment might also be necessary.

How long will my extensions last?

On average, your hair will last about a year. At that point your hair extensions will need to be replaced.

Why do I need to pay a deposit?

The deposit covers the cost of your hair. Your hair is purchased specifically for you.

BROW LAMINATION

What is brow lamination?

Lamination is a 2 step process that realigns the directional hair growth to create a more structured look. It gives the look of added volume and fullness by combing the brow hairs over sparse areas and often upwards resulting in perfect fluffy eyebrow look.

How long will my brows stay laminated?

4-8 weeks. You will likely have new growth, you can use a brow gel or wax to tame the new baby brow hairs. You can schedule every 8 weeks, at 4 weeks you can/should schedule a brow wax. The more you laminate the better your hair relaxes and laminates.

Is brow lamination for me?

Brow lamination is for anyone with/who:

  • A moderate-heavy amount of natural hair, that’s interested in a fuller, fluffier look with no commitment and very minimal maintenance.

  • Course, curly brows and you like how your brows look brushed up.

  • Sparse brows.

  • Is growing out their brows.

  • Is not ready to commit to permanent makeup/microblading.

  • Unruly, coarse brows.

  • Stubborn natural hair growth patterns.

How do I need to prepare?

You need at least 2 weeks of brow growth- no trimming, tweezing, waxing or threading! Do not exfoliate or use retinol for 72 hours before service.

What will they look like after 24 hours?

Important: After 24 hours/the serum wears off they will not look like the pictures (after pictures) you see on IG! Your brows will be more pliable and will need to be brushed daily into the shape you want them. They should be nice and fluffy.

Will it damage my brows?

It is a chemical service which is why we recommend using oil nightly. Honestly, over processing can occur, resulting in frizzy brows, but we will take every precaution to avoid it.

PERMANENT MAKEUP

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup, also known as cosmetic tattooing, is a type of superficial tattooing that involves applying pigment into the skin’s dermal layer to enhance features such as eyebrows, eyes, and lips.

Is it really permanent?

Given that it fades, permanent makeup is, in actuality, only semi-permanent and needs to be refreshed over time to maintain desired results.

Cosmetic tattooing is an art, not a science and results will vary. They are not necessarily a no maintenance treatment, but a low maintenance treatment. No two sides of the face are the same or perfectly symmetrical and trying to obtain perfect symmetry is always the goal.

Are powder/ombre brows the same thing as mircroblading?

They are not. Microblading uses a hand-held device and allows you to achieve realistic looking hair strokes. On the other hand, powder brows generally have a more defined finish, as if you've got them perfectly filled in with your favorite brow pencil.

What will effect my results?

  • Your lifestyle choices (such as smoking), age, genetics, and skin type will all effect your permanent makeup retention

  • Not properly following the provided aftercare instructions

  • Sun exposure and not wearing SPF

  • Cellular turnover

  • Use of anti-aging products or acidic cleansers

  • Color selection: lighter colors fade faster

  • Bleeding during the procedure will reduce the amount of pigment absorption. Alcohol, fish oils, and certain medications act as blood-thinners and should not be taken prior to and following your appointment

Am I a canidate?

You are, if your skin is in good condition. You are not a candidate if your skin is prone to conditions such as complications with eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris and dermatitis. See a full list of contraindications on this page.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients typically need a 2nd sessions 6-8 weeks after your 1st session when you skin has fully healed. A refresh is recommended annually or biannually to achieve desired results.

What will it feel like?

Permanent makeup shouldn't be painful but some discomfort is a normal reaction and is temporary. We use a 5% topical lidocaine to numb clients prior to your service.

How long does it take?

Expect your appointment to take 2+ hours. This will ensure enough time for a thorough consultation, shaping/mapping, color selection, numbing and for the service to be completed.

Can I get filler and tox?

It is advised to get filler 8 weeks before or 8 weeks after your touch up.

It is strongly advised to not get any tattoo done while until 2-3 weeks after tox.

What about lash extensions and lifts?

Please have your lash extensions removed for an eyelash enhancement. We advise that you wait until you lids are healed to get a full set of lashes or a lash lift.

How should I prepare?

  • Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours prior to your treatment

  • Avoid other skin treatments and waxing

  • Stay out of the sun

  • Stop taking NSAIDs, fish oil supplements, and other blood thinners

  • Oral muscle relaxants must be avoided

What should I expect after?

The healing process takes 6-8 weeks in which your brows, lips, or lashes will go through healing stages. Stone Fox will explain and provide you with all the healing process information.

Permanent Makeup- Brows Healing Process

On average it takes around 28 days for our skin to heal from any trauma, but it can take longer for some clients. This is why touch-ups are scheduled no earlier than 6 weeks after the first session. This is what you can expect during that time:

Day 1-2

  • Your brows will be 20-40% darker, bolder and more solid than your healed results

  • Under the pigment, the skin is red, and pigment has been deposited into the layer of skin containing dead skin cells: combined giving the darker appearance.

  • There may be minimal swelling

Day 3

  • Your brows may begin to itch but do not scratch them

  • The pigment may appear somewhat raised

Day 3-5

  • The top layers of skin will begin to shed and you will see loss of color. This is normal, and the pigment that was deposited superficially will come off with the skin that is embedded within. Do not pick or peel your skin. If you pull the skin off, you will remove ‘plugs’ of dermal pigment because it has not detached itself completely at this point.

Day 4-6

  • The skin will start to rapidly exfoliate and should be left alone so that is sheds evenly

  • The color under the exfoliating skin will continue to appear light under the epidermis takes on its more transparent characteristics

Day 30-40

First Few Days

  • Some swelling and bruising around the eyes is expected

  • The color may fade during the healing process

  • The color may look cloudy or shiny

4-6 Weeks

  • During healing the new skin cells are covering the pigment inside. When skin calms you will notice that the pigment will start lookin darker again
